As the People's Republic of China marks the significant milestone of its 70th anniversary, the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious university-based faculties located in the PRC specializing in international relations and political science, is immensely proud of its longstanding intellectual contributions to Chinese political development, foreign policy, and international cooperation. Over the past seven decades, as we have contemplated the changing interactions between China and the global community, we have broadened our academic portfolio from world socialism studies and diplomacy to encompassing Chinese politics, comparative politics, political theory, international security, strategic studies, international political economy, and an array of area studies.

The new era of world politics and China’s own development lead to both pressure and opportunities for SIS. Upgrading our academic disciplines, such as international relations and political science, calls for more innovation. We have to address the limitations of individual disciplines with further integration of international relations, political science, and other relevant disciplines within the framework of world political studies. Due to China’s unprecedented engagement with the world, we have to broaden our vision from Western-centric focus to a truly global one.

SIS is committed to expanding and deepening our international exchanges and collaborations. Our university's unique location--in the heart of contemporary China--coupled with our first-rate research on Chinese politics and foreign policy, allows us to foster greater comprehension of China among international communities. In terms of teaching, we aim to afford our students more international opportunities, and provide a wider variety of degree programs that are available in both Chinese and English to better serve our international students. We are dedicated to engaging beyond the confines of the ivory tower by organizing and participating in forums with practitioners of our disciplines, including politicians, diplomats, officers, and think tank analysts.

Guided by the remarkable achievements of our predecessors, and with the continued support of our faculty members, students, alumni, partners, and colleagues both domestically and abroad, we remain steadfast in our commitment to propel SIS-RUC to become a world-class school of international relations and political science. We endeavor to make greater contributions to our areas of focus, provide additional support to China's development, promote mutual understanding and trust among different nations, as well as advance global governance, stability, and prosperity.
