Introduction

The Master in Contemporary China Studies program is a two-year English-taught graduate program that is housed within our School – the preeminent institution in China for higher education in politics, diplomacy, and international affairs.

Our CCSP faculty comprises of over 20 professors from various departments, supported by a young and diverse administrative team with international experience. We welcome students from across the world, creating a unique and vibrant environment that transcends disciplinary and national boundaries. The program's multidisciplinary approach encourages rigorous academic research, while diverse perspectives and experiences add rich value to the students’ studies.

Program Structure

During their first year in the CCSP, students focus on a broad range of topics connected to the contemporary Chinese economy, politics, law, society, and foreign policy. In addition, students can select elective courses offered by other Renmin University schools to explore areas of interest and further develop their knowledge. The program also includes field trips to relevant institutions and organizations, including think tanks, private and state-owned enterprises, special economic zones (SEZs), rural areas, and cultural and historical sites.

Most students complete their coursework during the first year and dedicate their second year to completing an internship and writing a thesis. The thesis is a crucial element of the program and requires students to select a supervisor at the end of their first year. Throughout their second year, students work closely with their advisor to conduct in-depth research and produce a thesis that adds valuable insights to the field of Contemporary China Studies.
